#StabioAdventures- Road Trippin it!
What a week!
It all started last week, on Wednesday Aug. 2.
I was supposed to fly out to Philadelphia for an #MBA internship interview for next summer. Meanwhile, Catherine was getting ready to drive 13 hours to New Mexico to attend one of her friend's wedding- Brittany.
As I was getting ready to leave, our house was a mess. (We are moving in a week, and our house is full of empty boxes- ready to be filled so we can move to Wisconsin). As I get to the airport, my flight was delayed. After a little while, it was delayed again. I felt bad knowing that I was just sitting at the airport while Catherine was getting ready for the longest road trip she would drive by herself (Kids would be on the backseat of course). I walked up to the help desk and ask if I could take a flight the next day as everything kept being pushed to later and later. I did! Took an Uber home and Catherine was shocked...
"Here to help!" I said. "What do you need?".
I took the kids to the store to get snacks for the trip. Nico lost his "shopping with daddy" benefits until he's 3. He cried the entire hour I was at Walmart... ugh.
After all that, I made sure the car was ready to take on this trip, and made sure I helped clean a bit before we both left.
It was 4am. My plane was leaving at 6. Catherine slept very little. She wasn't happy. And no, it wasnt my snoring that kept her up. We needed to hurry. The line at the airport was huge. I was the last person on the plane and they close the gates right after me. Barely made it.
Philly
I landed too early to check into my hotel, so I took the train to the city and walked around center city hauling my luggage around.
I called a great friend of mine, and the first person I was able to share the gospel with as a missionary, Plinio Banks.
We met up, took a lady to the Hospital, and then ate Lunch at the Temple University Hospital in North Philly. It was a blast. This guy is special!
Getting to the Wedding.
Catherine made it in one day to New Mexico. No need for a hotel. She got there on Thursday night and I was supposed to get in on Friday night.
Flight was delayed and missed the connecting flight to NM in Chicago. I was then re-routed to Dallas. I get to Dallas 11pm and the flight leaves at 7 am. I slept in some cot in Terminal C... better yet, try to sleep in a cot in the middle of the airport.
Flight is on time and I get to New mexico at like 730, wedding's at 11- but its about an 1 1/2 hours from Airport. I need to get ready and feed the kids (Catherine needed to be early at the wedding as she was in the wedding party) and then take off at like 930 from the hotel to make it on time.
Get there. Beautiful parts of new mexico I have never seen. Seriously beautiful drive through Jemez. Then we come back, I nap for 2 hours, and the reception is at 5:30. At 8, we leave NM to Dallas to go to the Ayers for their baby blessing. 10 hour drive back to Dallas. Never-mind i was there 14 hours ago...
Dallas/Plano/The Colony
We get to their home at around 8:30 am. Church is at 1pm. Catherine goes to bed. I watch the kids. Then at 11 I go to bed, Cat gets up. The Ayers also helped us in watching our kids :) I wake up at 12:15 to get ready. We make it to church. David did great while his dad Will gave him a beautiful blessing.
After we take the sacrament, we bounce to make it back home for a fireside I was supposed to be speaking at. Everything is going well. We get stuck in traffic. Major accident. The Dallas to Houston trip is about 3.5 hours. It took us like 6 hours. I missed the fireside, but we made it home safely.
It was definitely an adventure. We love our friends and family. We would do anything for them!
