Peña de Bernal

In Mexico, some cities are considered to be “magical cities”. These are towns recognized by the Mexican government for their “magical” qualities, whether that be their astonishing beauty, rich history, or extraordinary legends. Bernal is also home to the 4th biggest monolith on Earth.

We spent most of the time there walking around town. You are able to hike up to about 3/4th of way up, but the line to get in was crazy long so we skipped it. The hiker and outdoor lover in our fam was quite disappointed, but we at least got to see it up close. Plus, the hike was quite steep, and our kids would've hated it.

We went to Bernal with my cousin and her family. On our way there, we followed them, but we eventually got separated. After parking our car, we probably walked about 2-3 miles around town until we finally found them (parts of town had a very spotty cell service).  We went to this really cool restaurant that had a great view of the Peña. While waiting to be seated and getting our food, we got pretty cold, and of course, we had left our sweaters in the car, some 2-3 miles away. So what did we do? Became obvious tourists by getting all our kids Sarepes (me included).

It was a fun trip. If you are ever in Queretaro, this place is must.
